At BoxDev 2016, we announced several additions to Box Platform including:

• The All New Box Developer Console: We are launching an overhaul to the user experience and functionality of the Box Developer Console. New features include a new UI, guided walkthroughs for configuring applications, easy access to support, and documentation and notifications. Try the new experience today.
• The Box UI Kit: Five pre-built components for you to use when building apps with Box Platform, including Preview, Navigate, Picker, Upload, and Feed. The new UI Kits will be available sequentially throughout the rest of the year and will be open sourced, allowing for complete customization. The first UI Kit, Preview, is available now.
• Security and Governance APIs: Four new APIs for managing files in your apps. The new APIs include the Retention Policy API, Legal Policy API, Watermarking API, and Folder Metadata API. Three of the new APIs are available now and the Watermarking API will be available later this year.
• Box Platform Incubator: In collaboration with AWS, we're excited to launch Box Platform Incubator. Applicants selected to the Box Platform Incubator will receive benefits including Box Platform credits, AWS credits, mentions in Box Platform digital marketing, and speaking opportunities at Box Platform events and webinars.

Service Accounts

Service Accounts are a secure and powerful way to connect your apps to Box Platform. This is a type of Box account that represents a custom application within an enterprise instance of Box and allows that application to make server-side calls to the Box APIs. You can define the capabilities of each individual Service Account dynamically, setting permissions such as uploading and managing content, managing users and groups, accessing events, or using premium features like Box Governance to set retention policies or apply legal holds.

Preview More File Types

Support for several new file types including HD video, 360 images and videos, 3D models, and VR files using the Get Embed Link endpoint.

Updates to User Events API

In mid-October, we will be adding six new events for the user events API under the "changes" stream type. These events are currently accessible under the "all" stream type for the user events API, but in this new release these events will also be accessible under the "changes" stream type.

Annotations Now Available in Public Beta

Annotations are a new feature in our file preview experience that allows users of your app to add point comments and highlight text directly on an embedded file preview.

Mojito

An open-sourced continuous localization platform for software strings. It allows you to automate localization and easily manage translated strings across all of your products and languages.

Box Hack Day Recap

As part of BoxDev 2016, Box Hack Day was an event for developers to learn about the Box API, collaborate with experts, and build prototypes to win prizes. We had 220 attendees that submitted 30 projects. The winner of the hackathon built an app to improve mobile healthcare delivery.
